Embark on Your Chess Journey with Nottinghamshire Primary Schools Chess Association
Playing chess offers not only a fun pastime but also a valuable opportunity to sharpen problem-solving, planning, and concentration skills. It fosters teamwork and promotes a mindset of lifelong learning. We believe these abilities will support the academic and social growth of our junior members. Regardless of your experience or enthusiasm for this timeless board game, our club provides a welcoming space to deepen your enjoyment of chess.
Nottinghamshire Primary Schools Chess Association is responsible for the development of junior chess throughout Nottinghamshire. It is staffed by volunteers, all of whom provide a valuable service in contributing to the organisation.
Our Aims
- to encourage the study and the practice of chess in local Primary Schools.
- to organise teams to represent the Association in national competitions.
- to ensure all aspects of chess within our sphere of influence are used to promote each child in all aspects of their development.
Coaching and Tournaments
Throughout most of the year NPSCA runs tournaments and coaching days. We select our junior county teams from Under 9 up to Under 11 age groups, with an additional Under 11 girls’ and these teams compete in inter-County Championships. The strongest players are encouraged to compete for national and even international representation.
NPSCA liaises closely with local schools and chess clubs to promote the development of school chess teams, so that juniors can maximise their playing potential and contribute towards playing for their county.
