The English Primary Schools’ Chess Association 58th Inter-Association Team Championship 2025 Midlands Zone will be held on Saturday 15th March.
Saturday 15th March
at Market Bosworth School, Station Road, Back Lane, Market Bosworth, Nuneaton, Leicestershire. CV13 0JT
The four teams competing over 20 boards will be Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. Up to 4 reserves from each team will play in a separate tournament at the same time as the main event. There will be three rounds of chess.
We will ensure that anyone playing as a sub will still play in the team.
We will be relying on your support to transport your son daughter to the venue where we will meet you. It is only about 40 minutes away from Nottingham. If you are able to offer a lift or willing to share transport please let me know as some parents have requested help in getting to the venue.
The children will be supervised in the tournament hall but we would ask you to supervise your child at all other times. It might be a good idea to have something they can read in between rounds. If we have the personnel available we will run some coaching sessions but this may not be practical if games are still taking place in the hall.
There is no charge for this event. The Association has covered all entry fees.
The competition begins at 11.30am but I would like the players to be at the venue NO LATER than 11.00am to give them time to recover from their journey and give us time to prepare the players before the tournament begins.
The rate of play is 40 minutes plus 10 seconds per move from the start.
The timings for the tournament are:
Arrive by 11.00am
Players seated 11.30am.
First Round-11.45am
Second Round-1.45pm
Third Round-3.45pm
Prize Giving-5.35pm
The children will need enough provisions for the day to stave off ‘starvation’. No sugary drinks or sweets please. These do not help concentration and are difficult to clean away if spilt.
We would like the children to have some water with them to keep themselves hydrated. It is a proven fact that it helps with alertness and concentration. They are allowed to take bottled water into the chess playing area and as their games will potentially last over an hour, I feel they should have some with them. A water bottle to refill is ideal.
In order to give the team every opportunity to do well in these Midlands Zonals we would ask that the children get an early night on the night before so that they are as fresh as possible for what is going to be a very hard day’s chess against some of the very best chess players in the Midlands.
I ask you to confirm that your son/daughter will be able to play on the Saturday by emailing me as soon as possible. I will contact you to confirm their selection in the team. At this stage I would like to know who is available.
Email to info@nottsprimarychess.uk
Should you require any further information please don’t hesitate to contact me either email or phone.
We will offer County tee-shirts or sweatshirts for team members who have not already got one.
Advance booking is essential.
A note for your diary.
The Under 11 Inter Association Championship Final, should we qualify, is on Saturday 29th March 2025 at at Bolton School, Chorley New Road, Bolton. BL1 4PA. The number of teams to qualify for the final will be confirmed shortly before the Midland Zone event.
