58th Under 11 Inter-Association Championship Final

on Saturday 29th March 2025

The Under 11 Nottinghamshire County Team played in the premier primary chess tournament in the country. All the best players of their age take part in three rounds of chess. The time limit was forty minutes with a ten second increment each move. It was such an achievement to be involved in this event.

Sadly due to numerous personal reasons we were unable to field a full team. We had fifteen players instead of twenty and quite a few of them were playing in an age group above their own age. It was an achievement that we did not finish in eleventh place missing so many players. We finished in tenth with 11 points, 10 wins and 2 draws.

We scored 3/5 against the eighth-placed Berkshire, 2.5/4 against ninth-placed Hillingdon/Ealing and 3/5 against Wirral (excluding the default). So it could be reasonable to conclude, with a full team such as we had at Bosworth, we would probably have finished eighth out of eleven teams, behind Warwickshire.

There were some remarkable individual performances from our team. All our players had to play higher than they did in the semi finals because of the absences on the higher boards, so they did well.

Joshua P had a very good performance against two excellent players from Kent and Richmond. Harry S was to play a very long and crucial third game ending up with a deserved win against Manchester to give the team a point to finish in tenth place. Alikhan K had a win and a draw against Wirral and Warwickshire losing only to Essex. Temidayo S and Yash V both scored 2/3 playing on boards 5 and 10 respectfully.

Thanks to Bolton Grammar for hosting and all the organisers and helpers from EPSCA for a good competition.
