Under 11 Inter-Association Championship Final

Following our success at Market Bosworth in the Midlands Zone Qualifier, the English Primary Schools’ Chess Association 58th Under 11 Inter-Association Team Championship 2025 Final will be held on Saturday 29th March.

Although I was unable to be at the Midland Zone I heard a very good report from Mr Swain and Mr Bevan. It was a great achievement to qualify for the Finals. You should be very proud of your child’s achievement.

Please see the full Midland Zone qualifier results and our report on the event.

The under 11 final will be held on Saturday 29th March 2025

The venue is Bolton School, Chorley New Road, Bolton BL1 4PA

The children did very well to qualify for such a prestigious tournament. I would very much like to have the same squad that did so well for us but I appreciate it may not be convenient for some. Do make every effort to come along.

There is no charge for this event but all we ask is for you to transport your child to the venue.

Teams consist of 20 players with 4 reserves. There are three rounds of chess and the team will be changed each round to allow all players the opportunity to play in the team if we have over 20 players.

The 13 teams competing will be Barnet, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire and North Wales, Hillingdon & Ealing, Kent, Manchester, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Richmond, Sussex, Warwickshire, Wirral.

The competition begins at 11.30am but I would like the players to be at the venue NO LATER than 11.00am to give them time to recover from their journey and to be prepared for the event. Mr Dai Bevan and myself will be the team managers.  Dr. John Swain will be going through their games after they have played. Parents are responsible for their children outside the playing hall.

The rate of play is all moves in 40 minutes plus 10 seconds per move from the start.

The timings for the tournament are:

Arrive by 11.00am

Players seated 11.30am.

First Round-11.45am

Second Round-1.45pm

Third Round-3.45pm

Prize Giving-5.35pm

If play is running late, there will be at least 10 minutes between rounds.

The children will need enough provisions for the day to stave off ‘starvation’. No sugary drinks or sweets please. These do not help concentration and are difficult to clean away if spilt. Some bottled water would be best.

In order to give the team every opportunity to do well in these National Finals tournaments I would ask that the children get an early night on the night before so that they are as fresh as possible for what is going to be a very hard day’s chess against the very best chess players in the country.

If you are able to offer a lift to someone else please do let me know.
